E-Safety

Our children love to use the internet, especially to play games and to communicate with their friends.  The way they start using computers and the guidance they are given at this young age can set them on the right path to being safer in later life.

At our school we ensure that our children are taught the basic tips of Internet Safety in each year group and these are reinforced as they progress through the school.

In Year 1 we read the story of Smartie the Penguin, who is given a new tablet for his birthday and needs help with lots of different things. This story covers pop-ups and in app purchasing, cyberbullying and inappropriate websites for older children.  We also learn a song that Smartie's parents teach him.

The main aim is for all children to learn how to use technology safely and respectfully, the importance of keeping personal information private and knowing what to do if you feel unhappy or sad.  We discuss how we can stay safe online and create an interactive book of our ideas using QR codes.  This book goes up with us to Year 2 to further reinforce how to stay safe online.

Early Years children use a story to lead discussion on how to stay safe.
