Governor Information

School Governors are a voluntary body of people who guide and support the strategic direction of the school. They are members of the school team and their contribution to the running of the school is highly valued.

The role of the governing body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

  • Set the aims and objectives for the school
  • Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards the achievement of its aims and objectives
  • Be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend)

The instrument of government states that the governing body shall consist of:

  • 1 Headteacher
  • 1 Staff Governor
  • 1 Local Authority Governor
  • 2 Parent Governors
  • 5 Co-opted Governors

They meet regularly throughout the year either as a Full Governing Body (FGB) or as a committee.

  • Finance, Buildings & Staffing committee - Chair - Mr Ian Barry

If you wish to contact our Chair of Governors, Mr Ian Barry please email the school office - adminoffice@southfarnborough-inf.hants.sch.uk and mark FAO Chair of Governors.

Ian Barry - Chair of Governors

I have always had a passion for learning and education, with a background in both delivery (while working in learning and development) and assessment. I am still involved in education, albeit in a management role, working as Head of Operations for an apprenticeship provider.

I have been very impressed by South Farnborough ever since my daughter joined in 2021.  Their ethos and values are evident both across the curriculum and are reflected in the care and attention the team shows towards the children.

I have been part of the local community for 20 years and have seen it grow and develop over that time, so when I was asked to join the board of governors, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to give back to the community by volunteering my time and sharing my knowledge and experience to hopefully help to benefit future generations.

Kirsty Dickenson

I was delighted to be elected as a Parent Governor in 2021.  I have a son who is now in Year 3 following three years at SFIS and twins who are now in Early Years.  I have loved my work as a primary school teacher and private tutor and aim to bring expertise and enthusiasm to the Governing Board of this wonderful school.

Dominic Treays

I have two dual national children, daughter and a son (at SFIS). We only moved to Farnborough in 2024, but settled in quickly. Though originally from London, I spent some years in Dubai where I home-schooled my daughter for 6 months and was then pro-actively involved in the parent group for her local (English curriculum) school. My work is mostly international, but I’m hoping that my governor role at SFIS will allow me the opportunity to contribute to the local community and also to gain further insights into UK education.

Joseph Baker

Joseph is a local parent who has two children that have both attended SFIS, bringing experience from a career in data and technology consulting. He is passionate about education and is committed to helping the school provide the best possible learning environment for all pupils. With a background in strategy and project delivery, Joseph supports the governing board in areas such as data-informed decision-making and financial planning. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family on bike rides in the local countryside.

Matthew Bunyan

I'm a dedicated member of the Salesian College community in Farnborough, where I've been teaching for the past 17 years. As a PE teacher, I’m passionate about promoting physical education and encouraging students to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

Throughout my time at the school, I’ve taken on a range of pastoral roles, including Head of Year 7, 10  and currently Head of Year 11. Supporting students through key stages of their development has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I also completed a two-year secondment on the Senior Leadership Team, which gave me valuable experience in whole-school leadership and strategic planning.

In addition to my teaching and leadership responsibilities, I’ve served on the governing board at Salesian College for two years, contributing to the school’s long-term vision and development.

I’m deeply committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive, both academically and personally. I look forward to supporting the school and meeting many of you at future events.

Lauren Adams

I have a daughter in Year 1 at the South Farnborough Infants and have been bowled over by it ever since we had a tour back in 2023. So when the opportunity arose to join the Governing Body, I had no hesitation! I’m excited to invest in the school and support it on its already very successful journey.
By day, I’m a Relationship Team Manager for an IT company that works exclusively within the education sector. I work closely with Headteachers, Senior Leadership Teams, and Teaching and Support Staff to ensure their IT supports effective teaching and learning every day. I hope my experience in supporting schools with their Digital Strategy and budgets will be valuable in my role as a Governor.
I’m really looking forward to getting involved as much as I can and meeting many of you along the way!

Ollie Clifford-Franklin

Having worked at The Wavell School in Farnborough since 2021 as a Music and Maths teacher, I am excited to now be joining the Governing Body at South Farnborough Infant school. While I am not a parent at the school, many members of my family have passed through the school, and I have loved hearing their stories of exceptional teachers and learning experiences over the years.

In my role at The Wavell, I am an Assistant Director of Students, and have recently been appointed as Pupil Premium and Priority Group (Including LAC) Lead. I am looking forward to bringing my experience from these roles, as well as from my NPQ in Leading Teaching, in contributing to the long-term strategic development of the school.

James Catchpole

I have worked within the education sector for almost fifteen years, having held a range of different roles. Currently, I work in a secondary school as a Head of Department and have extensive experience in curriculum development, staff training, and fostering positive working relationships. I have a real passion for ensuring all students are given access to the best possible outcomes, and I am keen to help bring my experience to SFIS. Currently, I have one daughter enrolled in Year 1 at South Farnborough and I hope my youngest will begin her journey with the school in 2026.
