African Drumming Workshop
We were incredibly lucky to have a visit from Justine today. She shared her journey around Africa and her most recent time in Guinea, where she enhanced her drumming technique alongside traditional African dancing. We learnt how to play Djembe drums using two basic sounds, bass and tone. These sounds were achieved by changing where we hit the drum. The bass sound is made by striking the drum with the palm in the centre of the drum. Tone is made by striking the drum closer to the edge to create a more high pitch sound. We learnt about how the drums were made and the wide variety of sounds it can make. We worked together to learn and play a simple rhythmic pattern and performed it in our classes.
